How to Travel Eco Friendly

Travel eco friendly, going green travel or eco-tourism is becoming a new slogan in travelling. However this doesn’t mean you should rough it. It’s always possible to go camping, canoeing or backpacking or stay in a tent, but just little things of everyday can make any travel eco friendly. No matter where you want to stay, in the countryside or metropolis, live in a big resort or a Bed & Breakfast, but you should consider what you can do to protect the environment. I’m speaking about conserving wildlife and plants but even about other resources like water and electricity.

Every year more and more people want to travel. With plenty of people out there, it’s more essential than ever to consider how vacationers can travel eco friendly to preserve the environment.

Making your travel eco friendly is a great option to protect the environment for people who visit after you do and for our kids. You don’t need to pay more for eco travel this way. You may even find that a eco-friendly holiday will be more satisfying, more authentic. Eco holidays let you get closer to the people and destinations you want to travel to and often cheaper as well.

Below you’ll get a list with some tips and activities on how to travel eco friendly:

  • See if you can stay in environmentally friendly hotels. Try to find out what sort of recycling program they’ve. Check to see if they use lighting that is energy efficient. Do they have water saving shower heads and low flow toilets?
  • Check to get a general idea if guests have the choice to reuse the towels and sheets rather than having them laundered day-after-day. If possible reuse them and keep your showers short.
  • Switch off lights, television, heat, air-conditioning etc. when you leave the room in your environmentally friendly hotel.
  • Take your own toilet articles instead of using the prepacked ones at the resort. Leave theirs behind. All these little bottles use tons of plastic, and do you need a whole drawer filled with these once you get home?
  • Take a water bottle that you can use many times. You don’t need buying them. Almost any plastic water bottles don’t get recycled.
  • When renting a vehicle, take the smallest most fuel efficient car that you can and be comfortable with. Even think about a hybrid. Today there are more and more hybrids available to rent. It’s a good idea to drive slower. If you go 60 mph, that’s about 100 Kilometers per hour (KPH) or less, you’ll need less fuel. And just there is a good chance to see more. Be prepared with maps and directions for the most direct route. Avoid to drive around to lose and waste gasoline.
  • Whenever possible try walking and use public transport. Try to book a green hotel that is centrally located. Walk around to visit the places of interest. If possible hike or bike in the countryside or enjoy other holiday activities.
  • Whenever you’re taking the air at the beach, think about picking up trash along the way. If all people would do this, all of the beaches would be so much cleaner.

You don’t even need to follow all of these suggestions to travel eco friendly. If you just keep an eye on one or two on your tour, the earth will give thanks to you.
