There's a great hike up this river into a slot canyon called "The Narrows Hike", and the canyon does narrow to only 20-30 feet across in places. You will spend more than half of your time in the river as the canyon walls soar above you. You need to check on conditions at the travelers center, because flash floods are possible. If you're not up for that exhausting hike, you can try some other hikes that let you experience what the Zion National Park has to offer. There are also scenic drives let you see several sights by car. You can stay at a Lodge in the park. Some more lodges are available outside the park, as well as campgrounds. Your next stop is Bryce Canyon National Park, a small National Park. But there are numerous visitors come away saying this was their favorite park. It's renowned for its colorful spire-shaped "hoodoos". A hike up into the canyon will make you feel you've came in a fairy wonderland. This park offers a lodge in the Park and good lodging close to the park. Near the visitor center you'll also find two campgrounds. A very pretty drive following along Route 12 is the tour to Capitol Reef National Park. The main feature in this park is the formation known as the "Waterpocket Fold", an ancient wrinkle in the earth's crust. In the park there is no lodge available. However, you can find some motels just about 12-15 miles from the park entrance. In the park there is some camping available. Next you can pass though Natural Bridges National Monument. A scenic drive will take you to places where you can take a view to each of the three bridges that were formed by meandering streams. You should plan a couple of hours for this drive. About 30-40 miles away you can find lodging. There is also small camping available. Next stop in your loop is Monument Valley Tribal Park. To get to there you might want to make it a long day of driving. This huge valley has those iconic wild-west sandstone formations that you've often seen in the movies. The most photographed place are "The Mittens", but there are many other stunning arches and pinnacles, bluffs and buttes. From local Navajo tour operators you can get guided tours. The only one hotel in the Tribal Park is a new one called "The View". In any case bring your camera to get stunning shots. Explore Great Adventures
